The shuffle is one of the essential grooves in blues, and one of the key contributions the blues has made to rock 'n roll.
Not all blues has to shuffle, but if you're going to do it, then to paraphrase Buddy Guy, "you got to play the thing right."
Like much of the blues, the shuffle probably has its origins in African drum music, which means, again, that timing trumps
complexity - better to lay down a fundamental, convincing backbeat than get tangled up overdoing it.
